How to create different Android screen sizes from single screen?

android application design

It really becomes very tough when you need to crop your Android application screens in different sizes. You do not have to redesign your Android app screen in all sizes. You just have to design only one screen which needs to be croped. The screen should be designed in HDPI size (480×800 pixel). Make sure that all your icons or images used in the screen are a smart object or vector images. This will not let you lose the quality of the screen. 01

Follow this simple step to crop the screens in seconds. Here is an example

I have designed a screen for an alarm app which I want to crop in 3 different sizes

  • a) – mdpi
  • b) – xhdpi
  • c) – xxhdpi

NOTE : The dimension of the screen I have taken is HDPI (480px X800px)

A ) – Converting hdpi to mdpi

STEP-1 Go to your Image – image size (Alt + Ctrl + I). Then select percent in the drop down box. Change the values to 59.99 and click ok. Now you got your 1st screen. Save it… as mdpi.psd and open your hdpi psd file. You will get a different size of your screen.
NOTE : NOW COME BACK TO YOUR PREVIOUS HDPI.PSD

B ) – Converting hdpi to xhdpi Go to your Image-image size( Alt + Ctrl + I ). Then select percentage. Remember it is only 150% less. So… you just write 150% and click OK. Now save the file as XHDPI.Psd, Yes you have got your XHDPI screen. NOTE : NOW COME BACK TO YOUR PREVIOUS HDPI.PSD

C ) – Converting hdpi to xxhdpi Go to your screen Image size (Alt + Ctrl + I), Then select percent in the drop down box. Change the values to 200 and click ok. Now save the file as XXHDPI.Psd, Yes you got your XXHDPI screen.
